Transport Canada - Small Basic Pilot License

Summary

Any team member how is expected to be around, and potentially fly a drone in Canada (which is almost everyone), will need to be registered with Transport Canada as, at minimum, a pilot who has passed the “Small Basic Exam”. This comes with a variety of restrictions, listed below, but also allows you to operate a drone under certain circumstances which will prevent you, and the company, from being charged with fines which can overlap to a total of $6,000 for the individual and up to $30,000 for the company. If you haven’t successfully passed this “Small Basic Exam”, DO NOT FLY A DRONE.

The exam is reasonable, and only costs $10, so please arrange the test with your manager, and you can take it as many times as you need to pass it (with the caveat attached that you will at some point be expected to pass the test in order to operate drones, and work at Realitas in a position that requires that exposure and capability).

With that said, dig into the material, and good luck! If you have questions, please ask your manager for assistance.
